Raipur, March 26 (NationPress) Bhupesh Baghel, the former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and a prominent figure in the Congress party, expressed his insights on the political landscape in Assam as the Assembly elections approach. In an interview with IANS on Thursday, he discussed the Congress's strategy, his interactions with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the prevailing sentiments among the electorate.

Voting for the 126-member Assam Assembly is set for April 9, with the results being counted on May 4, according to the Election Commission of India.

During a press briefing in Raipur, Baghel remarked, "Corruption has reached unprecedented levels in Assam under CM Sarma’s administration. His arrogance knows no bounds, and the public will challenge this arrogance on April 9," further adding, "There is significant turmoil within the BJP."

As the Congress's election observer for Assam, Baghel reinforced his earlier claims that the "genuine Congress" is represented by Gaurav Gogoi, the President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), in contrast to the "imitation Congress" led by Chief Minister Sarma.

He stated, "The BJP leaders are coming to terms with the fact that they are not the true contenders; the actual political contest in Assam is between the ‘real Congress’ and the ‘fake Congress’. The genuine Congress is headed by Gaurav Gogoi, while the ‘fake Congress’ is under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma."

Baghel has previously noted that there is a growing sentiment in favor of Congress throughout Assam.

He also conveyed his dissatisfaction regarding a recent comment made by CM Sarma about the Congress.

"He seems to have lost touch with reality. I will conduct a press conference about this in Assam," Baghel asserted.

In a statement made to the press in Nagaon, CM Sarma commented, "The Congress might establish governments in Pakistan and Bangladesh, but it will never govern Assam."

The Assam Chief Minister allegedly asserted that Congress has no viable political future in India.

Additionally, Chief Minister Sarma accused Congress leaders of engaging in irresponsible politics, having transitioned from being a prominent Congress leader and Minister in various Congress administrations between 2001 and 2015 to joining the BJP in August 2015, eventually rising to the position of Chief Minister of Assam.
