Bhupesh Baghel: Assam Elections a Clash of 'True' vs. 'False' Congress
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Raipur, March 26 (NationPress) Senior Congress figure Bhupesh Baghel has once again declared the upcoming Assembly elections on April 9 in Assam as a contest between the ‘true Congress’ and the ‘false Congress’, represented by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
During a press interaction, Baghel remarked, "Corruption is rampant in Assam under CM Sarma's regime, and his arrogance has reached unprecedented levels. The public will dismantle his arrogance on April 9, especially as chaos is brewing within the BJP."
He reaffirmed his earlier statements, asserting that while the ‘true Congress’ is guided by state President Gaurav Gogoi, the ‘false Congress’ is led by CM Sarma.
Baghel, a former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, emphasized, "The BJP leaders have come to terms with their lack of support, making the real political confrontation in Assam between the ‘true Congress’ and ‘false Congress’. Gaurav Gogoi leads the ‘true Congress’, whereas Himanta Biswa Sarma heads the ‘false Congress’."
He previously indicated a rising ‘pro-Congress’ sentiment throughout Assam.
Moreover, the former Chief Minister expressed his dismay regarding the Assam CM's recent comments about Congress.
"He seems to have lost his senses. I plan to hold a separate press conference on this matter in Assam," Baghel stated.
In response, CM Sarma had remarked, "The Congress may establish governments in Pakistan and Bangladesh, but it will never succeed in forming a government in Assam."
He further claimed that Congress lacks a political future in India.
Additionally, Chief Minister Sarma criticized the Congress leaders for engaging in reckless politics.
Notably, Sarma was once a prominent Congress leader in Assam and served as a Minister during consecutive Congress administrations from 2001 to 2015 before joining the BJP in August 2015, eventually becoming Chief Minister.
