Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Jan 28 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, launched a fierce political critique against the Congress and State Congress President Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday, claiming that the party is poised for a "severe defeat" in the forthcoming state Assembly elections and will fail to secure the role of the principal Opposition.
In a statement to journalists, Chief Minister Sarma argued that the Congress now relies solely on a "specific segment of voters" and has lost its broader appeal among the residents of Assam.
He expressed confidence that the electorate will once again vote emphatically for the BJP, stating, "The public will not permit the BJP to be in the Opposition."
Chief Minister Sarma took aim at Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of lacking genuine responsibility towards Assam and its society.
He remarked, "Gaurav Gogoi shows no emotional or political allegiance to Assam or its citizens," adding that Gogoi's ambitions would be realized "in Pakistan rather than in Assam", continuing the ongoing exchange of barbs between the BJP and Congress in the region.
The Chief Minister further questioned Gogoi's knowledge of Assam's geography and politics, especially in Upper Assam.
Sarma asserted that Gogoi struggled to accurately name the Assembly constituencies in Upper Assam and accused him of misrepresenting the number of seats in that area.
"Upper Assam has 42 Assembly seats, yet Gaurav Gogoi inaccurately stated there are 50, clearly indicating his lack of understanding of the state he wishes to lead," CM Sarma commented.
He also made an unsubstantiated personal claim, suggesting that three members of Gogoi's family are "foreigners", raising significant doubts about the Congress leader's credibility.
Reaffirming his faith in the BJP's governance, CM Sarma noted that the populace of Assam has experienced development, stability, and decisive leadership under the BJP and would categorically reject Congress in 2026.
"The sentiment of the people is unmistakable. Assam will again deliver a robust mandate for the BJP," the Chief Minister concluded.
