Ballari, March 8 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded when a student lost his life and seven others sustained injuries following an alleged attack by a Class 9 student on his fellow hostel mates using an iron rod at a residential school located on the fringes of Ballari, according to police reports.

During a press briefing, Ballari Range Inspector General of Police P.S. Harsha revealed that the attack occurred at a Gurukul school late on Saturday night.

"The unfortunate event transpired late last night at a Gurukul school near Ballari. Nine children were assaulted by a boy familiar to them. Regrettably, one boy succumbed to his injuries during this incident," Harsha stated.

He further mentioned that the hostel warden was also a victim of the attack, suffering injuries, along with a driver who was present during the chaos.

Investigation teams, including Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), have been dispatched to the scene to gather evidence.

The alleged attacker has been taken into custody. Both the assailant and the victims were known to each other, as per police information.

Reports indicate that the accused student reportedly struck his fellow hostel inmates with an iron rod after a minor disagreement. The assault occurred post-dinner, while the students were resting in their dormitory.

One student unfortunately succumbed to his grave injuries, while the others were treated for their wounds at the Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Ballari.

Authorities noted that the accused had hit several students with the iron rod and also targeted the hostel warden before fleeing the scene.

In the wake of the tragedy, the family of the deceased has expressed doubts regarding the school's account of the incident. While school officials described it as an attack with an iron rod, the family suspects that the boy might have been stabbed with a knife and is demanding a thorough investigation.

The parents have raised concerns that the accused student may be involved in substance abuse and have criticized the school administration for the incident, questioning how such a violent act could transpire within a hostel setting.

Police have initiated a case and are continuing their investigation.
