Hyderabad, March 2 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar has labeled the alteration in the timing of the Class 10 pre-final exams in Telangana due to Ramzan as ‘utterly unreasonable’.
The School Education Department has decided to hold the exams from 12:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., a shift from the original schedule of 1:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
These pre-final exams are set to take place from March 6 to 15. This change was announced approximately a month prior.
Additionally, the department instructed schools under government and local bodies to provide mid-day meals to students before the new start time of 12:15 p.m.
However, Bandi Sanjay Kumar has criticized this timing adjustment.
“The Telangana government's decision to schedule 10th pre-final exams from 12:15 PM to 3:15 PM for Ramadan is entirely unreasonable. This is when students and teachers typically have lunch. How can they be expected to take exams on an empty stomach?” he expressed on 'X' on Sunday.
“Is the exam schedule being changed without proper consideration just because of Ramadan? Why should students of other communities face challenges due to this? Is this what Congress defines as equality? I call on the government to promptly revise the exam schedule to prevent inconvenience for students and teachers,” his post detailed. Sanjay represents the Karimnagar constituency in the Lok Sabha.
The BJP leader accused the Congress government of practicing appeasement. “During Ramadan, the government grants Muslim employees exemptions from duty after 4 PM. School timings have also been adjusted accordingly. Yet, they conduct exams at an inconvenient time in the name of Ramadan, adding unnecessary pressure on students. Is this just? The government is using taxpayer funds on organizations like Tablighi Jamaat, which is banned in several nations,” he claimed.
“They provide duty exemptions, benefits, and even free accommodations and travel for Ramadan. However, when it comes to Hindu devotees—whether they worship Ayyappa, Bhavani, or Hanuman—no such exemptions or support exist. Not a single rupee is allocated for Hindu festivals. During Maha Shivaratri, devotees fast and remain awake in prayer all night. The following day, they require rest, yet the government refuses to declare an optional holiday. Instead, they impose unnecessary restrictions under the pretext of rules and regulations during Hindu festivals. Is this Congress’ interpretation of equality? Does the Congress government believe Hindus do not matter? Their approach is profoundly objectionable,” the MoS asserted.
He insisted that the government immediately revoke the circular and reschedule the Class 10 pre-final exams in a manner that does not inconvenience students and teachers.
