Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 25 (NationPress) - Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of Trinamool Congress, launched a sharp critique against BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, the candidate for Nandigram, claiming he has betrayed his constituents and has capitulated to those who disrespect Bengalis. While addressing a meeting of party workers in the Nandigram Assembly constituency of East Midnapore district, Banerjee stated: “The community is intolerant of betrayal in politics. To protect his own interests, this leader has sacrificed the region's rich history and dignity, even lowering himself to those who continuously insult the Bengali populace. Despite his claims of solidarity with the community, how often has he truly supported the local people?”
He continued, “Nandigram has always been a stronghold for the Trinamool Congress. I’m not here to personally attack the current officeholder; our goal is to back our candidate, who exemplifies integrity. Our candidate is a native of Nandigram — unlike Suvendu Adhikari, who does not call this place home.”
Banerjee remarked that Suvendu Adhikari does not prioritize the politics of providing essential needs such as food, clothing, and shelter.
“His political agenda is limited to saffron flags and the chant of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. I urge everyone campaigning to engage with the residents. Inquire about their needs and create a thorough list of their requirements,” he said.
He emphasized that the upcoming Assembly elections represent a crucial opportunity to “purify the soil” of Nandigram and to enhance the developmental initiatives led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the area.
“We must avoid complacency. In the days ahead, we must strategically focus on the polling booths where our performance was lacking during the 2021 and 2024 elections,” he asserted.
Issuing a serious warning to party workers, Abhishek Banerjee stated that all internal actions are under scrutiny. He cautioned that any form of collusion with the opposition would be met with zero tolerance.
However, he assured the workers that he has personally taken responsibility for Nandigram and that the party will steadfastly support them against any pressure or intimidation.
