Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 13 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee announced on Monday that he aims to reinstate the voting rights of individuals whose names were expunged from the state's voter list following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Addressing an election rally in Karimpur, located in Nadia district, Banerjee assured that those affected would have their voting rights reinstated within a month of the new government taking office after the Assembly elections.
During the rally, Banerjee emphasized, "Individuals have seen their names removed from the voter list post-SIR, despite having valid documentation and a strong desire to vote. I urge you to cast your votes directly for Mamata Banerjee, who will lead the government formed on May 4. Gyanesh Kumar will fade away, and within a month, Mamata Banerjee's administration will restore the voting rights. This is our commitment," he stated.
While acknowledging that this matter is not part of the Trinamool's election manifesto, Banerjee remarked, "Although it is absent from our manifesto, it remains a priority for us. The BJP claimed it would implement the NRC, but we thwarted that plan. The BJP represents detention, whereas Trinamool signifies freedom from worry."
Banerjee continued his critique of the BJP during another public assembly in Ranaghat within the same district, alleging that the names of the Matuas were being excluded. He accused those who previously won elections with these individuals' votes of stripping them of their voting rights. "The Trinamool government is providing Lakshmi Bhandar benefits and housing to those who supported the BJP. They must now recognize that they have been deceived," he declared.
On this occasion, Abhishek Banerjee raised several other concerns and further criticized the BJP, accusing it of undermining Bengali culture.
He asserted that the BJP is persistently targeting Bengali citizens for their dietary choices, particularly regarding fish and meat. Calling upon Trinamool candidates to secure victory in the elections, he cautioned, "The BJP is contemplating punishing these individuals by withholding funds. On May 4, Bengalis will demonstrate what true retribution is, standing in line to cast their votes in protest against the lockdown, demonetization, and the struggles faced during the SIR process."
