Bhubaneswar, March 30 (NationPress) In a significant incident, 11 coaches of the Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Express derailed close to the Cuttack-Nergundi Railway Section of the Khurda Road Division of the East Coast Railway on Sunday.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:54 am on Sunday. Following the report, officials from the East Coast Railway (ECoR), Cuttack District Collector, fire services, and local police promptly arrived at the scene to assist in rescue and restoration efforts.
As of now, ECoR officials have not confirmed any casualties or injuries resulting from the derailment. However, sources indicate that one passenger has died due to the incident.
Additionally, several passengers have sustained injuries.
Commenting on the situation, the Chief Public Relations Officer of ECoR, Ashok Kumar Mishra, stated, "Today, at around 11:54 am, we received information that the Kamakhya-bound Bangalore-Kamakhya (12551) superfast AC Express derailed in the Nirgundi-Kandarpur section near Nirgundi in Cuttack. Initial reports suggest that no passengers have been injured in the incident."
Mishra added that following protocol, Accident Relief Trains (ARTs) and Accident Relief Medical Vans (ARMVs) were dispatched from the Khurda Road division immediately.
The ECoR CPRO also mentioned that central and state emergency response agencies were alerted without delay. The General Manager of ECoR and other senior officials have arrived at the incident site.
"Our top priority now is to make arrangements for stranded passengers to reach their destination railway stations. An emergency control room has been established to facilitate their travel," Mishra said.
He also confirmed that sufficient manpower is mobilized for restoration work to restore normalcy on the route as swiftly as possible.
A special train is being organized to assist stranded passengers from the affected train to reach their destinations.
However, the exact causes of the derailment will be determined after an initial investigation.
In light of the derailment, the following trains have been diverted: 12822 Dhauli Express (BRAG), 12875 Neelachal Express (BBS), and 22606 Purulia SF Express (RTN).
