Kolkata, March 30 (NationPress) Suvankar Roy (22), the only victim in the derailment of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Superfast Express close to Cuttack in Odisha on Sunday, was the family's only breadwinner, according to a relative.

A resident of Netaji Road-Madhyapara in Alipurduar, West Bengal, Roy was en route home from Bengaluru with his mother, Chitra Roy, when the tragic incident occurred. At least 11 coaches were derailed.

Officials in Alipurduar stated that Chitra had a heart condition, and Suvankar had taken her to a hospital in Bengaluru for medical care. They held confirmed tickets in the B6 Third AC coach of the train. The specific nature of the injuries sustained by Suvankar remains unknown. His body has been sent for an autopsy, with the report pending.

In the meantime, a devastated Chitra is being assisted back to Alipurduar by fellow passengers on a special train. This train also carries a coffin containing Roy's remains. Amarjit Gautam, the divisional railway manager of the Alipurduar division, informed that 34 passengers, including Roy and his mother, were scheduled to disembark at New Alipurduar station.

"I spoke to my sister-in-law around noon. She informed me about the accident. She also said that Suvankar is missing. However, we later learned that we would never see him alive again," stated Roy's paternal aunt, Manju Roy.

His uncle, Bimal Roy, mentioned that Roy had lost his father at a young age and had been working at a nearby factory to support his family.

Reports indicate that eight individuals were also injured in the train incident, which reportedly occurred at around 11:54 a.m.

The District Magistrate of Cuttack, Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde, confirmed that officials have initiated an investigation into the occurrence.

"One individual has died in this incident... 8 people required referrals and have been transferred... An inquiry is currently underway," he stated to reporters.
