New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) In one of the most devastating terror assaults to shake Jammu and Kashmir in recent times, 40-year-old Bitan Adhikary, a technology expert hailing from Florida, USA, was tragically among the many victims brutally attacked by terrorists in Pahalgam.

Bitan had returned to his family home in Kolkata with his wife Sohini and their three-year-old son on April 8, later proceeding to Kashmir for a family getaway. Their return was planned for Thursday, but sadly, their vacation took a horrifying turn.

Bitan was shot in the scenic Baisaran Valley, where terrorists opened fire indiscriminately on civilians, primarily tourists. Fortunately, his wife and child survived and are currently safe. Efforts are being made to bring them back to Kolkata.

The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, reached out to Bitan’s grieving family, expressing her profound sorrow.

In a message posted on X, she stated: "My heart goes out to the families of the victims of the devastating terrorist attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir today. One of the victims, Sri Bitan Adhikari, is from West Bengal. I spoke with his wife over the phone. While words cannot ease her grief, I assured her that my government is taking all necessary steps to return his mortal remains to his home in Kolkata. My deepest condolences to all families who have lost loved ones in this heinous act of terror."

Bitan’s father, heartbroken by the loss, told Anandabazar Patrika, "He wished to take all of us along. But I advised him to travel with my daughter-in-law. I spoke to him earlier in the afternoon. Then, the tragedy struck..."

His brother added, "I talked to my younger brother that morning. He mentioned we would plan a longer trip after returning from Kashmir. We had no idea it would be our last conversation."

The attack also resulted in the deaths of two foreign nationals and has elicited widespread condemnation both nationally and internationally.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was visiting Saudi Arabia, cut his trip short and returned immediately.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar last night and held discussions with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Security forces are actively conducting extensive search operations in the area.
