Kolkata, April 23 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, expressed his outrage on Wednesday regarding the tragic killing of tourists in a terror attack that occurred in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. He asserted that Hindus are being specifically targeted across regions, including Kashmir, West Bengal, and neighboring Bangladesh.
“In the valley of Pahalgam, no Bengali, no Odia, Marathi, Kannadiga, Haryanvi, Tamil, or Malayali was killed. Hindus were the victims. Be it Kashmir, West Bengal, or Bangladesh -- the ultimate aim is the same -- to eradicate Hindus,” Adhikari stated in his announcement.
He drew comparisons between the Pahalgam terror attack, the recent communal unrest in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, and ongoing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, claiming that religion serves as the only protective barrier for Hindus facing “numerous atrocities.”
Furthermore, he questioned the divisions among Hindus based on caste, language, region, customs, and ideology, especially when extremists do not make such distinctions. “When extremists do not differentiate among Hindus, why should we remain fragmented by caste, regional pride, food preferences, liberalism, centrism, or rightism?” he questioned.
At least three individuals from West Bengal were confirmed among those killed in the attack at Pahalgam on Tuesday. They were identified as Manish Ranjan Mishra, a Central Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer, Sameer Guha, and Bitan Adhikari.
In the meantime, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, released a statement on Wednesday, offering condolences and pledging support to the families of the victims.
“All necessary arrangements have been made by our administration at New Delhi airport to assist the grieving families and facilitate their journey to Kolkata. The flight is anticipated to arrive in Kolkata at 8.30 p.m. today. Our Resident Commissioner’s office in Delhi is in constant communication with the families. I am personally overseeing the process and senior officials are actively involved. This is a somber time for all of us,” the Chief Minister stated.
