Kolkata, April 23 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, expressed her concerns on Wednesday regarding the targeted killings carried out by terrorists in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
“It’s beyond my comprehension how so many individuals could be killed in such a selective manner. We were able to see and hear the events unfold. A significant military presence was stationed in Pahalgam, which is a sensitive area near the International Border (IB),” the Chief Minister remarked to reporters after visiting a city-based private hospital where Governor C.V. Ananda Bose is currently hospitalized.
She also condemned the tragedy, stating, “There was a gathering of the state Cabinet today, and this issue was addressed. Terrorists lack any class or religion and must not be shown any mercy,” she added.
In related news, the remains of two out of the three tourists from Bengal who lost their lives in the Pahalgam incident, specifically Bitan Adhikari and Sameer Guha, were transported back to Kolkata via a special flight on Wednesday evening.
The body of the third victim from Bengal, Manish Ranjan Mishra, who was an officer of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), is set to arrive at his family home in Jhalda, located in the Purulia district, through Ranchi.
West Bengal's Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, along with other senior BJP leaders, were present at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata to receive the remains of Sameer Guha and Bitan Adhikari.
Additionally, members of the West Bengal Cabinet were also present at the airport.
Meanwhile, leadership from the Trinamool Congress has launched fierce criticisms against the Union government regarding the intelligence lapses that led to the Pahalgam massacre. Arup Biswas, West Bengal's Power Minister, stated, “Those in power, who make grand claims about national security, must be held accountable for this massacre. Numerous lives were lost due to security shortcomings.”
However, the state BJP leader and Union Minister of State, Sukanta Majumdar, emphasized that now is not the appropriate time for political disputes in the wake of this tragedy.
