Kolkata, July 10 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee emphasized on Thursday that following the recent events in Pahalgam, it is the Union government's duty to establish adequate security measures in Jammu & Kashmir to facilitate increased tourist visits.
On the same day, Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, visited the West Bengal state secretariat in Nabanna for a meeting with Mamata Banerjee.
At a joint press conference after their discussion, Mamata Banerjee reminded the Union government of its obligations regarding security in Jammu & Kashmir.
“It is important to remember that the security management in Jammu & Kashmir is solely the responsibility of the Union government. I urge the Union government to consult with Omar Abdullah and take the necessary actions,” she stated.
Mamata Banerjee called for enhanced collaboration between the governments of West Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir to foster mutual growth in the tourism sectors of both regions.
“We should establish a memorandum of understanding to enhance tourism and promote cultural exchanges between our states. I encourage the Bengali film industry to consider shooting in Jammu & Kashmir, and I invite people from Jammu & Kashmir to visit West Bengal during Durga Puja. We are fully prepared to support the Jammu & Kashmir government in this initiative,” she added.
In response, Omar Abdullah expressed gratitude towards Mamata Banerjee for sending a delegation from the Trinamool Congress to Jammu & Kashmir following the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor as a gesture of solidarity.
“I would like to extend an invitation to Mamata Banerjee to visit Jammu & Kashmir and spend some time with us,” said the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir.
He acknowledged the importance of collaboration between both state governments to promote tourism, stating, “We are committed to providing all necessary support and safety to tourists from Bengal.”
