Key Takeaways
Godda (Jharkhand), March 2 (NationPress) — In a bold attempt at a bank heist during daylight hours, a group of armed individuals invaded a branch of the Bank of India in the Mahagama region of Jharkhand’s Godda district on Monday. Fortunately, their scheme was thwarted by prompt actions from officials.
The quick reaction of the bank personnel and the activation of security protocols compelled the robbers to retreat, although a security guard suffered a gunshot wound during the altercation.
As per police reports, four armed assailants entered the bank located at Kenchua Chowk in Mahagama, firing at least two shots to instigate fear among customers and staff.
Witnesses noted that the attackers also tried to seize the firearm of the bank’s security guard, Vinod Kumar Singh.
In the ensuing struggle, Singh was shot and subsequently received immediate first aid before being transported to Sadar Hospital for further medical care. His condition is currently stable.
Bank officials disclosed that upon hearing gunfire, the manager and staff activated the emergency alarm system, quickly securing the locker area.
As a safety measure, access to the cash counter and locker rooms was restricted, effectively preventing the criminals from accessing any cash or valuables.
Confronted with heightened security and alert staff, the robbers abandoned the scene while discharging their weapons.
Upon receiving the alert, a team from the Mahagama police station quickly arrived at the location, cordoning off the area. A search operation commenced under the supervision of the station head, with raids executed in surrounding neighborhoods.
According to police officials, CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the bank is currently under review to identify the suspects.
Investigators are also analyzing the possible escape routes taken by the robbers.
The Mahagama area, being close to the Bihar border, is believed to be a common escape route for criminals.
Previously, there have been reports of robberies targeting bank customers in this locality.
In response, police have intensified surveillance and deployed additional security personnel in the area to deter further incidents. Officials remain optimistic that the culprits will be identified and captured soon.
