Jamshedpur, March 10 (NationPress) In a shocking daylight robbery, armed bandits made off with nearly Rs 15 lakh from a Canara Bank branch located in the Sakra region of Baharagora, situated in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district on Tuesday afternoon, as reported by officials.
According to law enforcement and bank representatives, a group of five to six masked assailants burst into the bank around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Wielding makeshift pistols and sharp instruments, the criminals instilled fear in both employees and patrons for close to 15 minutes before absconding with cash and valuables.
Authorities mentioned that the robbers arrived on three motorcycles, with four entering the bank while two remained outside to monitor the situation. Upon entry, they confiscated the mobile phones of all customers and staff to thwart any attempts at contacting the police.
The armed gang threatened Assistant Branch Manager Saurabh Verma at gunpoint, demanding access to the bank's lockers. However, as this was a rural branch lacking locker facilities, the assailants became enraged and forcibly took Verma’s gold chain and ring.
Subsequently, they looted approximately Rs 15 lakh from the cash counter and room, stuffing the money into bags before making their escape.
