This announcement comes as Union Home Minister Amit Shah is poised to inaugurate the countrywide Vibrant Village Programme-II (VVP-II) from Cachar district.

One of the highlighted initiatives is the ongoing construction of an expressway aimed at reducing travel time between Guwahati and Silchar to a mere five hours.
Improved road connectivity is expected to spur economic activities, trade, tourism, and enhance the movement of people, further integrating Barak Valley with the rest of Assam.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the “Double Engine Government” to ensure balanced growth for both the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys.
He stated that the government is rolling out numerous initiatives to fortify administrative infrastructure, healthcare, education, and employment prospects in the Barak Valley.
Sarma emphasized that developments like the Barak Valley Secretariat will improve governance by making administration more accessible to the public and ensuring quicker delivery of services.
