Beldanga Police Inspector Dismissed by Election Commission Before Bengal Elections

Kolkata, April 14 (NationPress) The Election Commission (EC) has officially dismissed the Inspector In-Charge (IC) of Beldanga police station, situated in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, as confirmed by a poll panel official on Tuesday.
Previously, on April 11, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Beldanga was also removed. Now, the EC has taken action against the IC of the Beldanga police station.
According to the Commission, Ashutosh Rai has been appointed as the new IC of Beldanga police station, previously serving as an Inspector within the Howrah Police Commissionerate.
The former IC, Animesh Dey, had held the position for an extended duration. His removal comes as part of the Commission's efforts ahead of the forthcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.
Ashutosh Rai is instructed to assume his role as the IC of Beldanga police station by Tuesday evening.
Earlier on April 11, the Commission executed several changes in both Kolkata Police and West Bengal Police.
Beldanga's SDPO, Uttam Garai, was also included in the transfer orders, with Anandjit Horke being appointed as the new SDPO of Beldanga.
In January, unrest erupted in Beldanga following the death of a migrant worker, which is currently under investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as per the Supreme Court's directive.
Concerns were raised regarding the state police and administration's effectiveness in managing the situation.
In light of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, the Election Commission has been actively reshuffling bureaucrats and IPS officers throughout the state.
The Commission has periodically dismissed numerous bureaucrats and police officials from their duties.
It has been made clear by the poll panel that those who have been removed are prohibited from participating in any election-related responsibilities within the state for the time being.
The elections will take place across 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal in two phases on April 23 and 29.
Murshidabad district is scheduled to participate in the first phase.
The counting of votes will occur on May 4.
