Kolkata, December 14 (NationPress) The Governor of West Bengal, C.V. Ananda Bose, is set to compile a distinct report addressing the management shortcomings observed at Salt Lake Stadium on the northern fringes of Kolkata during an event featuring the renowned Argentine football icon Lionel Messi on December 13. This report will also include recommendations for the state government regarding necessary precautions for future large-scale events, according to an official announcement made on Sunday.
On Sunday, the Governor inspected the Salt Lake Stadium to assess the situation following the disruption that occurred during the event. Before departing, he informed reporters of his intention to create a separate documentation on the incident, accompanied by specific recommendations for the state government aimed at preventing similar events in the future.
During his media engagement, the Governor criticized the state government for failing to implement sufficient security measures for an event of this scale, especially considering prior warnings about possible crowd-related issues. He highlighted that there were advance alerts regarding the extensive turnout of fans eager to see the Argentinian football star, which should have led to enhanced preventive measures.
The Governor reiterated his previous statements, claiming that the police administration did not establish adequate preemptive measures to foresee and manage the chaos caused by the substantial crowd at the stadium.
"It was crucial to have advance precautions in place to ensure a seamless event," the Governor emphasized, highlighting the necessity for improved planning and collaboration among relevant authorities during such significant programs.
Additionally, members of the judicial committee appointed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to investigate the incident also visited Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday afternoon. This committee's role is to scrutinize the events that led to the turmoil and determine accountability for any shortcomings.
After reviewing the venue, the committee's head, Justice (Retd.) Ashim Kumar Ray from the Calcutta High Court, urged media representatives to avoid conducting what he referred to as a "post-mortem" of the incident at this time.
"I ask all of you not to engage in any form of post-mortem right now. We will perform a thorough investigation into the matter. We have taken notes on every aspect, and our conclusive report will encompass all details," he stated.
Justice Ray, however, declined to directly address whether any particular authority or agency could be held accountable for the evident mismanagement at the stadium on Saturday.
"The investigation is still in its preliminary phase, so I cannot provide any comments at this moment," he added.
