Kolkata, Jan 20 (NationPress) As the Election Commission of India (ECI) prepares to announce the polling date for the significant Assembly elections in West Bengal later this year, the state's largest transport association has issued a statement outlining prerequisites for providing buses for election duties.
The West Bengal Bus-Minibus Coordination Committee, the foremost transporters' organization in the region, specified that no buses or minibuses would be available for election-related tasks unless all outstanding payments for vehicles provided during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are settled.
Currently, bus and minibus operators have only received partial payments for their vehicles supplied for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, making it essential to clear the remaining dues before any vehicles can be allocated for the upcoming state Assembly elections.
Additionally, the association has proposed new rates for various categories of buses for the forthcoming West Bengal Assembly polls.
For buses accommodating 40 seats or more, the set rate is Rs 4,500 per day.
Buses with 30 to 40 seats will be charged at Rs 4,000 per day.
For smaller buses with up to 30 seats, the daily rate is set at Rs 3,500.
Air-conditioned buses will incur a daily charge of Rs 5,500.
Moreover, hired drivers and staff for these buses will need to be compensated Rs 500 each per day. The buses will only be released for hire upon acceptance of these terms by the ECI, stated the Association's General Secretary, Rahul Chattopadhyay.
He further pointed out that the average rates for providing buses in West Bengal for elections are relatively low compared to other states and emphasized that it often takes considerable time to receive full payments for the buses supplied for election purposes.
