Kolkata, Dec 11 (NationPress) West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose has officially submitted his enumeration form to register as a voter in West Bengal on Thursday, coinciding with the final day for the submission and digitization of forms during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state.
Despite the Election Commission of India (ECI) extending the deadlines for the enumeration process in five states and one Union Territory earlier in the day, the deadline for West Bengal remained unchanged at midnight on Thursday.
On the same day, the Governor convened a meeting with booth-level officers involved in the SIR initiative, and at its conclusion, he presented Form-8, crucial for including names in the state’s voters' list, to the Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
Initially, when the SIR initiative commenced on November 4, Governor Ananda Bose had not expressed interest in becoming a voter in West Bengal. Insiders suggested that, as a resident of Kerala, he preferred to maintain his voting status there.
This situation led to some controversies regarding the Governor's reluctance to register as a voter in West Bengal, despite holding the position of the state's first citizen.
However, on the concluding day of the enumeration phase, he clarified his intention to register as a voter in West Bengal, which is gearing up for significant Assembly elections next year.
The Governor also issued a message to the residents of the state on this matter from the Governor’s House, which has recently been renamed from Raj Bhavan to Lok Bhavan.
"I cherish my time in West Bengal. I am inspired by the air once breathed by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. I aspire to follow the footsteps of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. This presents an incredible opportunity for me. Becoming a voter in this state will solidify my bond with West Bengal," Governor Ananda Bose stated.
