Bengaluru, April 17 (NationPress) New revelations have surfaced concerning the apprehension of the suspect involved in the molestation case of two women in Bengaluru. The police arrested the suspect, Santosh Daniel, ten days post-incident in Kerala, with assistance from his home guard girlfriend.
Following the viral spread of CCTV footage capturing the incident, it became a significant challenge for law enforcement to resolve the case swiftly.
According to sources, the accused was in a live-in relationship with the female home guard. Daniel had allegedly harassed two young women and then fled, later spotted enjoying himself in Kerala. The police expressed disbelief at the home guard's decision to support the accused despite his actions.
Sources further disclosed that the molester was advised by his home guard girlfriend on evading police capture after the incident.
At the time of his arrest, Daniel was discovered having a good time at a resort in Kerala with the female home guard.
To mislead the police, the suspect frequently traversed four to five police jurisdiction boundaries in Bengaluru. He utilized a Dio scooter, navigating through areas such as Suddguntepalya, Tilaknagar, and MICO Layout.
The police monitored his movements and initiated a search operation. Just when they presumed he was still within Bengaluru, he escaped to Kerala with the female home guard from the Bellandur police station.
Despite being married with a child, the home guard reportedly distanced herself from her husband for Daniel, as per sources. They had been in a live-in relationship for three years, during which she allegedly assisted Daniel in evading capture. She even traveled with him to Kerala. Initially, the couple made their way to Hosur, Tamil Nadu, near Bengaluru.
Upon realizing that law enforcement was on their trail, they abandoned the scooter in Hosur and fled to Salem. From Salem, they proceeded to Kerala.
According to police sources, the home guard devised a strategy to remain undetected. She instructed Daniel to refrain from using his mobile phone and suggested folding the scooter’s number plate to obscure it.
As his movements became untraceable, special police teams continued their investigation in other directions. Ultimately, Daniel was apprehended due to records of traffic violations. The police reviewed approximately 1,000 CCTV clips and identified him through a traffic infraction.
They tracked the number plate of a bike located at the crime scene, leading them to the suspect. That bike ultimately revealed Daniel's identity. In the early phases of the investigation, the police traced the suspect by monitoring his bike.
The police sought assistance from the transport department during the investigation.
The Southeast Division police reached out to the transport department concerning the Dio scooter, inquiring about the number of scooters of that color registered in the city. With the transport department's help, the police gathered further leads about the suspect.
Using the vehicle number, they located Daniel's home address. The police visited Daniel's residence in Galburga Colony, Jayanagar, where they discovered that the accused was evading capture. The Karnataka police arrested him on April 14.
Currently, Daniel is in police custody and undergoing extensive interrogation. The police department has yet to disclose any details regarding the female home guard.
Authorities have examined over 1,600 CCTV clips to locate the suspect. Two special teams were established, and based on technical leads, they searched for him in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The investigation commenced following a complaint lodged by a resident named Lokesh Gowda.
A viral video depicted the accused targeting two young women in the early hours of a residential area. The 17-second clip shows the two women walking along a deserted street flanked by houses. A tall, muscular man approaches them from behind, pushes one woman aside, sexually harasses the other, and subsequently escapes. The video also captures the visibly shaken women pausing momentarily to regain their composure before hastily leaving the scene.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on April 4 under the jurisdiction of the Sadduguntepalya police station. The video went viral on April 6.
