On June 4, 2025, a tragic stampede occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB victory celebrations. This disaster resulted in the loss of 11 lives and left over 50 individuals injured due to severe overcrowding, with an estimated 300,000 attendees present.
In light of the upcoming IPL season, the first match will take place on March 28 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
In this context, RCB management official Rajesh Menon held a press conference, stating that 11 seats will be dedicated in memory of those who perished in the incident. Black armbands will be worn to honor the victims, and players will also don black armbands.
Moreover, 11 seats will remain vacant during each match as a tribute to the deceased.
Menon confirmed that various changes have been implemented this season as precautionary measures, with essential safety protocols being enforced.
RCB CEO Rajesh Menon mentioned that the management has taken all possible actions to support the families of the 11 victims. He added that discussions will be conducted on how to provide further assistance to the families in the future.
Responding to inquiries regarding the absence of an earlier official press briefing about the incident, Menon stated that the franchise would refrain from commenting. He clarified that a case was filed right after the incident, including a suo motu case, and that the matter is currently in court with four agencies conducting investigations.
Therefore, the management was unable to comment on the situation at that time and remains unable to do so now.
As part of the tribute, Menon announced that players will wear jersey number 11 during every practice session in honor of the 11 deceased.
The RCB management has officially declared that this gesture will be upheld during all practice sessions, extending condolences for the tragic loss of lives.
