Bengaluru, Jan 29 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, a 13-year-old boy took his own life by hanging while at home with his younger sister, as reported by officials on Wednesday.
This heartbreaking event unfolded within the Byadarahalli police jurisdiction in Bengaluru on Tuesday evening.
Authorities believe that the boy's death may be linked to an addiction to mobile devices. The victim has been identified as Dhruva, who lived in Ratnanagar near Gollarahatti, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The police revealed that this incident occurred while the boy's parents were away at work, leaving Dhruva and his sister home alone. Dhruva removed his 'udadaara' (a sacred thread traditionally worn by boys in certain South Indian communities, thought to safeguard against malevolent forces) before attempting to hang himself.
He secured the thread to a ceiling fan, but as he attempted the act, the thread broke, leading him to fall. Coincidentally, his mother arrived home around 7 p.m. and quickly took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Initial inquiries indicate that although Dhruva hanged himself in front of his 9-year-old sister, she did not raise an alarm, likely due to a lack of understanding of the situation. The police also noted that Dhruva frequently disregarded his parents' warnings regarding excessive mobile phone usage.
His father is employed at a bakery, while his mother works at a garment factory. The police are currently investigating the underlying motives behind his suicide, suspecting that his mobile phone addiction may have influenced his actions. Ongoing investigations continue.
