Bhubaneswar: Congress Protesters Encounter Bee Swarm Near IAS Officer's Residence

Bhubaneswar, Dec 16 (NationPress) During a demonstration held by the Odisha Chhatra Congress and Yuva Congress, a swarm of bees unexpectedly attacked the participants near the residence of Bishnupada Sethi, a senior IAS officer and principal secretary in the SC/ST welfare and Odisha language department, on Monday.

The Congress activists were advocating for the arrest of the senior bureaucrat due to his alleged involvement in a Rs 10 lakh bribery case.

Reports indicate that the attack occurred when a beehive was disturbed on a tree close to Sethi’s residence in the city.

This sudden swarm of bees caused the protesters to flee the area. Even the police officers stationed at the scene and journalists covering the protest had to take cover on the ground to protect themselves from the bees.

However, once the bees settled down after a few minutes, the protesters returned to the location to continue their demonstration.

In the meantime, Congress Leader Yasir Nawaz accused Bishnupada Sethi of engaging in corrupt practices throughout his career in various departments under the previous BJD-led government.

Nawaz claimed that numerous blacklisted companies had been awarded tenders by corrupt officials.

He called on the BJP government to swiftly apprehend senior IAS officer Sethi for his alleged role in the Rs 10 lakh bribery case. The Congress leader also questioned why Sethi has not responded to CBI summons despite being called.

“Corruption in Odisha cannot be addressed unless officers like Sethi are detained. I urge Chief Minister Mohan Majhi-led BJP government to imprison such corrupt officials to help make Odisha corruption-free,” Nawaz added.

It is important to note that political tensions are escalating in the state following the issuance of summons to the senior IAS officer and his drivers related to the high-profile bribery case.

On December 7, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended Chanchal Mukherjee, the Group General Manager (GGM) of Bridge and Roof Co. (India) Limited, a Central Government PSU under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, while he was accepting a Rs 10 lakh bribe from Santosh Moharana, the director of a city-based private company. The middleman Debadutta Mohapatra was also arrested in connection with the case.
