Patna, Oct 6 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India has revealed that the Bihar Assembly elections will take place in two phases — on November 6 and November 11.
During the first phase, voters will cast their ballots for 121 assembly seats across various districts, including Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Patna, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Munger, Saharsa, Madhepura, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, and Begusarai.
The second phase will see polling on 122 seats in West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Purnea, Kishanganj, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Nawada, Aurangabad, Rohtas, Kaimur, Gaya, Arwal, and Jehanabad.
This election is of significant importance for both the NDA and the Grand Alliance, as both factions are optimistic about their prospects in this pivotal political confrontation.
With the 2025 Assembly elections approaching, certain constituencies have garnered heightened interest due to the presence of high-profile candidates and political shifts.
One of the key areas to watch is Raghopur in Vaishali district, where Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition, will be running again.
Having secured victories in this Yadav-majority constituency in both 2015 and 2020, Tejashwi aims to maintain his hold for a third consecutive term.
In Mahua (Vaishali district), Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, has declared his candidacy with his newly established party, Jantantrik Janta Dal. He faces a stiff challenge from the RJD candidate, given that Mahua is historically an RJD bastion.
In 2020, Mukesh Raushan won this seat on an RJD ticket. Tej Pratap had previously contested from the Hasanpur seat in Samastipur.
Another significant battleground is Lakhisarai, currently represented by Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, who was elected in 2020 and is seeking re-election on the BJP platform.
The Mokama seat in Patna district is also anticipated to see a fierce competition.
Anant Singh, a controversial leader who previously aligned with the RJD, will now run on a JD-U ticket.
Singh lost his position after being convicted in an Arms Act case, after which his wife Neelam Devi won the by-election on an RJD ticket.
The upcoming 2025 Bihar election will serve as a crucial test for several rebel leaders.
Among them is Chetan Anand, who won from Sheohar on an RJD ticket in 2020 but later joined JD-U during the Nitish Kumar government's floor test in February 2024, alongside Neelam Devi and Prahalad Yadav.
Prahalad, elected from Suryagarha (Lakhisarai district) on an RJD ticket, also switched allegiances.
Furthermore, Sanjiv Kumar, who represented Parbatta (Khagaria district) as a JD-U MLA in 2020, recently became part of the RJD.
Bima Bharti, another JD-U figure, defected to the RJD amid the political upheaval following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s floor test in February 2024.
