Bihar Government Disturbed by Kishor's Rising Popularity: Jan Suraaj Leader Criticizes Police Actions

Patna, Jan 6 (NationPress) The founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, Prashant Kishor, who had been on an indefinite hunger strike for four consecutive days at Gandhi Maidan, was forcibly arrested in the early hours of Monday. In reaction to the Bihar police's overt actions against Prashant Kishor, Jan Suraaj Party Vice-President VY Giri condemned the state government, asserting that it was intimidated by his rising popularity.

VY Giri stated that the police and administration breached all protocols and forcibly removed Prashant Kishor from the protest site.

"No notices were provided to either Prashant Kishor or his team; this is entirely unconstitutional," he remarked, accusing the Nitish government of employing police force to silence student voices.

"Peaceful protests are a democratic right. The Bihar government is fearful of Kishor’s increasing popularity and his advocacy for students, which is why it resorts to such measures," he elaborated.

He further asserted that the protest was conducted peacefully and demanded accountability from the state government for this overreach.

"Satyagraha is a democratic right. The designation of Gandhi Maidan as a restricted area is unfounded and undemocratic," Giri countered accusations that the Jan Suraaj Party founder and his supporters had illegally occupied the area for political demonstrations.

Kishor and others being detained in a late-night operation has ignited claims of police brutality and unlawful actions.

Meanwhile, police officials have asserted that the sit-in demonstration by Kishor and his supporters constituted a violation of law and order.

Patna SSP Awakash Kumar stated, "Prashant Kishor and others were protesting illegally in the restricted area near the Gandhi statue. Following protocol, they were detained, underwent medical evaluations, and will be presented in court."

Jan Suraaj Party members who were protesting alongside Kishor characterized the police operation as aggressive and unjust.

"Over 200 police personnel stormed the site at night. There were no female officers present, despite the presence of female protestors. Prashant Kishor was forcefully dragged, slapped, and his supporters were beaten," alleged Sanjeev Kumar Singh, a party worker.

Singh further cautioned of political ramifications, comparing the incident to the 1974 JP Movement. "This government will face consequences in the upcoming elections," he asserted.

"We felt like criminals for merely advocating for students' rights. We were dragged, beaten, and pursued without any warning," another party worker added.

"The police didn't just arrest us; they humiliated us. They locked all the gates of Gandhi Maidan and resorted to physical violence to clear the area," claimed another supporter.

The protest centered on alleged irregularities in the recent Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examinations and called for reforms to ensure justice for students. Kishor, fasting in solidarity with the students, was accused of being targeted due to his influence.

The party has promised to legally challenge Kishor's arrest, with videos of alleged police misconduct trending on social media.
