Prashant Kishor Commits to Hunger Strike Following Release from Jail

Patna, Jan 6 (NationPress) Prashant Kishor, the leader of the Jan Suraj Party, has committed to continuing his hunger strike advocating for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) candidates after his release from Beur Central Jail on Monday night.
He announced that the movement, which began in Patna’s iconic Gandhi Maidan, would also conclude there, with further updates to be revealed the following day (Tuesday).
Kishor viewed his unconditional bail as a major blow to the administration of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, alleging that it is being manipulated by retired officials operating from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).
“Nitish Kumar is an exhausted leader approaching the twilight of his political career. He will not remain Chief Minister after 10-11 months. The bureaucrats backing Kumar's regime should prepare for the fallout after the government changes in Bihar,” Kishor stated.
Upon his release from Beur Central Jail, the Jan Suraj Party founder criticized certain officers of the Patna Police and the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) for their conduct during his arrest and subsequent detention.
He specifically pointed out an officer for reportedly demonstrating unnecessary “heroism” and accused him of lacking a proper grasp of the law.
Kishor recounted his experience, asserting, “In spite of the legal provision for bail at the police station level, the officers took me on a lengthy journey in an ambulance for six to seven hours. They transported me to AIIMS Patna, where doctors declined to admit me, and subsequently to a health center in Fatuha, where no medical certificate was provided. Ultimately, I was presented before the Patna Civil Court in the Pirbahore area, which granted me conditional bail. However, I declined the conditional bail and opted to return to jail,” Kishor recounted.
He further accused the police of mismanaging the situation, claiming they transferred him to Beur Central Jail without a court order, even though the court had already issued him unconditional bail. He asserted that the officers were uninformed about legal protocols and acted out of a desire to exhibit their authority.
“Following the unconditional bail from the court, it is a significant blow for those who were flaunting heroism and those instructing from the CMO,” Kishor remarked. He reiterated that the ongoing hunger strike and movement at Gandhi Maidan are not centered on him but are focused on pursuing justice for the youth of Bihar, especially those impacted by issues related to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). He expressed his readiness to step aside if leaders like Congress MP Rahul Gandhi or former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav decided to lead the movement.
In a sharp critique, Kishor lambasted Tejashwi Yadav for being absent from the fight. While protesters braved the harsh cold in Gandhi Maidan, the Jan Suraj Party leader alleged that Yadav was enjoying a bonfire at his home and sharing videos on social media. This, he contended, highlighted the lack of genuine commitment from certain political leaders in addressing the issues faced by Bihar's youth.
Earlier on Monday, Kishor was apprehended by the police from the Gandhi statue in Patna, where he was engaged in a hunger strike.
