Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 16 (NationPress) A question-and-answer session took place between the ruling party and the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council on Monday, where numerous public interest matters were addressed.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLC Saurav Kumar criticized the state government for the sluggish advancement of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
He mentioned that out of a goal of 12.20 lakh houses in Bihar, only approximately 2.85 lakh houses have been built, leaving over 9 lakh houses still to be constructed.
Saurav Kumar claimed that the construction has significantly decelerated due to the non-disbursement of funds by the Central government in the last five months.
He also highlighted that although a new system for direct fund transfers was introduced, it has not been fully executed, causing delays in payments to beneficiaries.
In response to these accusations, Rural Development Minister Shrawon Kumar stated that the state government is continuously collaborating with the Central government to ensure fast-tracked completion of the pending houses and timely disbursements.
He reassured the Assembly that the matter would be resolved shortly. However, Saurav Kumar retorted that the delay is not a new issue, prompting the minister to reaffirm that the work would be finished as soon as possible.
During the assembly, Janata Dal (United) MLC Neeraj Kumar questioned the timeline for the construction of the Aamas–Darbhanga expressway.
In reply, the government indicated that land acquisition challenges would be settled soon, and the process would be expedited through cooperation between the Land and Revenue Department and the Forest and Environment Department.
Moreover, RJD MLC Kumar Nagendra pointed out the frequent accidents occurring due to the lack of an underpass at Beladih Neemchak on National Highway 22 in the Belaganj block of Gaya district.
In response, Road Construction Minister Dilip Jaiswal assured that an underpass would be constructed at the site soon, with work commencing once approval is granted by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Kumar Nagendra appreciated the assurance, stating that with prompt government attention, the issue could be effectively managed.
