Bihar: Prepare for Severe Cold as the New Year Approaches

Patna, Dec 31 (NationPress) The meteorological department in Patna has raised an alert forecasting a cold wave across Bihar for the next seven days, commencing with the start of the new year.
The state has already recorded a significant temperature drop, with Kishanganj registering the lowest minimum temperature of 11.5°C. Other notable temperatures include Darbhanga at 11.6°C, Aurangabad at 13.3°C, Muzaffarpur at 13.7°C, and Sasaram at 14.7°C on Tuesday.
Weather officials have confirmed that conditions will remain dry without any rain anticipated until at least January 7. However, temperatures are expected to dip further, leading to a more intense cold wave.
The Meteorological Centre and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have also predicted dense fog and westerly winds across the state, which will heighten the cold wave alert.
Residents have been advised to prepare for severe conditions as the cold becomes more pronounced.
The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for dense fog across various districts in Bihar, such as Buxar, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Arwal, Rohtas, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Purnea, Araria, West Champaran, East Champaran, Madhepura, Katihar, Bhagalpur, and Aurangabad.
Motorists have been warned to drive carefully, prioritizing safety by avoiding travel during low-visibility conditions, particularly at night. It is recommended that drivers ensure high visibility before traveling and avoid journeys after dark if possible.
The public is advised to stay indoors during peak cold hours, utilize suitable heating methods, and dress warmly. Visibility issues and the biting cold may continue.
Residents in Bihar are urged to brace for harsher winter conditions in the upcoming days. The cold weather in Bihar could worsen due to ongoing snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.
Westerly winds are likely to intensify the chill. Cold wave conditions have also been reported in neighboring states such as Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. A thick fog layer has been observed in numerous areas, including southwestern Bihar, western Jharkhand, northern Chhattisgarh, southern Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, northern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, western and southern Uttar Pradesh, southern Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
