New Delhi, July 3 (NationPress) Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar reiterated the Election Commission of India’s pledge to complete the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar on schedule, despite concerns from opposition parties regarding the proximity of this initiative to the upcoming state assembly elections.
Addressing a training session for Booth Level Officers (BLO) in New Delhi, the CEC emphasized that the SIR is progressing according to plan, with comprehensive participation from both the election apparatus and political entities.
“The execution of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar is on track, with the full engagement of all election personnel and political parties in a transparent process. Regardless of some individuals’ concerns, SIR will guarantee that all eligible individuals are included,” Kumar asserted.
These remarks come as several opposition parties, including Congress, RJD, and CPI, have voiced skepticism about the practicality of conducting such an extensive revision of electoral rolls so close to the elections.
While there is no opposition to the revision itself, they contend that the limited timeframe of three to four months leading up to the elections could compromise the accuracy and completeness of the final voter list.
Kumar, however, expressed confidence that the ongoing process is being conducted transparently and efficiently. The BLO training session reportedly highlighted best practices for voter verification and inclusion, emphasizing the Commission's objective to maximize voter participation.
This electoral roll revision initiative is anticipated to yield a more precise and current voter list prior to the upcoming elections in Bihar.
The Election Commission has affirmed its commitment to operate within a structured and inclusive framework. The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to take place later this year.
