Why is Bihar's Toll-Free Grievance Number Not Working?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Jan 22 (NationPress) Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Revenue and Land Reforms, Vijay Kumar Sinha, expressed his deep dissatisfaction on Thursday after finding out that the department's toll-free grievance redressal line was inoperative, despite its purpose being to assist the public.
Vijay Sinha conducted an unannounced visit to the Revenue and Land Reforms Department for a surprise inspection, catching officials unprepared.
He evaluated the office designated to manage calls to the department's toll-free number 1800-345-6215, which is intended for the prompt resolution of land-related grievances.
During the surprise check, the Deputy Chief Minister confronted the officials, noting that there had been no responses to calls since the morning.
“I personally attempted to call the toll-free number 10 times, but there was no reply,” he informed the officials.
The Revenue Minister mentioned that he had been receiving ongoing complaints from the public about unanswered calls to the toll-free number.
In expressing his frustration, he labeled the situation as administrative negligence.
“If the toll-free number is not operational, how will people report their issues, and how will those issues be addressed? This system is meant to assist the public, not just exist on paper,” Vijay Sinha remarked.
He instructed officials to swiftly address technical deficiencies and ensure that the call center functions efficiently at all hours.
Additionally, he issued a stern warning that strict action would be taken against officials if similar complaints arose in the future.
Reaffirming the government's commitment, Vijay Sinha stated that delivering transparent, prompt, and citizen-centric services in revenue and land-related issues remains a priority for the Bihar government.
Vijay Kumar Sinha has been proactive since assuming responsibility for the Revenue and Land Reforms Department in the Nitish Kumar administration.
He has been conducting regular district-level meetings with officials and making decisions on the spot.
To date, he has visited districts like Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Purnea, and Katihar, in addition to Patna.
