Is the Trinamool Congress Intimidating BJP Leaders Ahead of Elections?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 18 (NationPress) The BJP has alleged that the Trinamool Congress is threatening its party leader, even claiming an assassination attempt, in Nanoor, located in Birbhum district of West Bengal, as the Assembly elections approach.
Local sources identified the BJP leader as Ramakrishna Mandal, residing in Kurgram, in the Thupasara region of Nanoor.
The BJP asserted that items such as white dhoti, incense sticks, garlands, and sweets were placed outside Mandal's home in a bid to instill fear among his family.
Witnesses reported, "Ramakrishna is the mandal president of the BJP. After a normal evening, he woke up Wednesday morning to a disturbing sight before his house. There was a white tarpaulin, flower garlands, sweets, and incense sticks laid out at his doorstep."
Locals noted that such items are typically associated with mourning.
The BJP quickly directed its accusations towards the Trinamool Congress, claiming they are employing intimidation tactics against their leaders and supporters in Nanoor.
Mandal stated, "With the Assembly elections coming up this year, Trinamool realizes their chances of winning are slim. They are attempting to intimidate BJP leaders into staying indoors. This act was deliberately orchestrated to frighten us. Naturally, my family is scared, and I have filed a complaint with the local police."
In response, the Trinamool Congress has dismissed these accusations. Local leaders attributed the incident to BJP's internal conflicts.
A local Trinamool Congress representative commented, "This is a result of infighting within the BJP. Our party is not involved."
A senior officer from the Birbhum district police confirmed that an investigation is underway regarding the complaint against unidentified individuals. "We are looking into the matter. An inquiry is ongoing," stated the police officer.
