Bengaluru, March 10 (NationPress) The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revealed its candidates for the upcoming biennial elections to the Karnataka Legislative Council.

Senior BJP figure Shashil G. Namoshi is set to contest from the North East Teachers' Constituency, while S.V. Sankanur will represent the West Graduates' Constituency. Additionally, K.M. Suresh, a close associate of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, has been nominated for the South East Graduates' Constituency.

The announcement came via an official communiqué from Arun Singh, the BJP's National General Secretary and in-charge at the Headquarters.

K.M. Suresh, hailing from Davanagere, is identified as the BJP candidate for the South East Graduates' Constituency.

He is notably a close confidant of former CM Yediyurappa and previously served as the Chairman of the Harihar Urban Development Authority.

A respected educationist in Davanagere, Suresh's constituency spans a vast geographical area, covering several districts.

The South East Constituency includes the districts of Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, and Davanagere.

Within this constituency, the taluks of Davanagere, Harihara, and Jagalur are included.

The current MLC representing the South East Graduates' constituency is R. Chowda Reddy Thoopalli from the JD-S.

The Karnataka North-East Teachers' Constituency encompasses all Assembly constituencies in the districts of Ballari, Bidar, Kalaburagi (Gulbarga), Koppal, Raichur, Vijayanagar, and Yadgir.

Since November 10, 2020, Shashil Gangadhar Namoshi has been serving as the representative for this constituency. He is also the Chairman of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society.

The Karnataka West Graduates' Constituency represents the districts of Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, and Uttara Kannada (Karwar), with the seat currently held by BJP leader S.V. Sankanur.

Holding onto these seats is crucial for the BJP, as it reflects the party's prestige.

The Karnataka Legislative Council serves as a permanent body with a total membership of 75, functioning as the Upper House of the bicameral Legislature, with terms lasting six years.

It comprises 64 elected members and 11 appointed by the Governor.

Within the Karnataka Legislative Council, Congress holds 37 seats, BJP has 29, and JD-S has 7. There is one Independent candidate, while another seat is currently vacant.

BJP's Basavaraj Horatti serves as the Chairperson of the State Legislative Council, and Congress has indicated it may nominate a candidate to replace him.
