Is ‘Delhi ka Ghajini’ a Better Fit for Arvind Kejriwal than L-G?

New Delhi, Dec 26 (NationPress) BJP Delhi President Virendra Sachdeva criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for branding Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena as “Delhi ka Ghajini” in the context of air pollution, stating that the film's character more accurately reflects former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
This statement followed a comprehensive letter from Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor to Kejriwal, holding him and his party accountable for the worsening air quality and inadequate infrastructure in the national capital. In retaliation, the AAP launched a poster campaign against the LG, depicting him as “Delhi ka Ghajini.”
Talking to IANS, Sachdeva remarked, “The LG’s letter spans about 15 pages. It astonishes me that he has to remind the Chief Minister about the pollution crisis that was particularly severe in 2017–18. The response from that period was even more startling, as Kejriwal allegedly remarked that pollution lasts only 15–20 days and should not be taken seriously.”
Sachdeva further accused Kejriwal of trivializing the issue by suggesting that certain media outlets and activists would soon cease to raise it, and people would forget it.
“The government led by Arvind Kejriwal, which has governed Delhi for 12 years, has driven the city into this dire situation. Why should the BJP, which has been in power for just 10 months, be blamed for their failures?” Sachdeva questioned.
He emphasized that the current administration is committed to rectifying the situation after decades of neglect.
“My government is diligently working to improve conditions after 27 years of poor governance. We are addressing roads, infrastructure, and implementing various pollution control measures. At least our government is taking action, while they have looted the national capital and devastated Delhi,” he stated.
In response to the AAP’s poster campaign, Sachdeva criticized their comparison of the LG to the character Ghajini.
“I recall the character Ghajini quite vividly. He forgets everything. The poster used by AAP even contains errors. The person who has forgotten Delhi after losing the election is Arvind Kejriwal. Thus, the character of Ghajini fits him, not the LG. They should have at least used an appropriate image,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, air quality in the capital showed slight improvement on Friday but remains categorized as “poor.” The day before, the opposition AAP intensified its criticism of Lieutenant Governor Saxena following his letter to Kejriwal, which recalled previous concerns raised about pollution when Kejriwal was in office.
In his letter, Saxena indicated that he had brought up the pollution issue with Kejriwal before but was met with indifference. According to the LG, Kejriwal had stated, “Sir, this occurs every year. The media highlights it for 15–20 days. Activists and the courts make it an issue, and then everyone forgets. You too should not give it too much attention.”
In a sharp rebuttal, the AAP accused the LG of shifting blame rather than tackling the ongoing pollution crisis. In a humorous twist, the party shared a digitally altered image of Saxena on the social media platform X on Thursday.
This image featured Saxena’s face superimposed onto a poster of the film Ghajini, starring Aamir Khan, whose character suffers from short-term memory loss. The AAP claimed that the LG is forgetting that the BJP currently governs Delhi and that addressing the pollution crisis is its responsibility.
“L – Low Quality; G – Ghajini,” the AAP's post stated. The edited image also included tattoos reading, “Kejriwal is responsible,” “Pollution in 2025,” and “AQI at 750,” heightening the political tension surrounding Delhi’s deteriorating air quality.
