Did L-G’s Letter Reveal Kejriwal and AAP’s Hypocrisy on Pollution?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stated on Tuesday that the letter from Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena to former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has unveiled troubling elements of the AAP leader's decade-long governance marked by corruption and a chaotic political and administrative environment, alongside an apparent reluctance to address pollution.
Sachdeva emphasized that the correspondence served as a political reflection for Kejriwal, whom the LG characterized as a prime example of a “Master of announcements and execution of none.” This letter has laid bare his contradictory statements regarding the battle against pollution.
In the correspondence dated Tuesday, the LG referenced a 2022 discussion with Kejriwal, where the then Chief Minister suggested to “disregard the pollution issue as it is a 15-20 day phenomenon often highlighted by the media, activists, and courts, only to be forgotten thereafter.”
The Delhi BJP President remarked that the Lieutenant Governor has served as the city's first citizen and dedicated servant for the last three years. The public has witnessed how he not only ensured essential services continued during the chaotic tenure of Kejriwal but also facilitated the completion of several development projects.
Sachdeva noted that while the 56-point letter to Kejriwal reflects the LG's concerns, every phrase encapsulates the distress of Delhi's citizens who endured public issues for a decade.
For the past ten months, AAP leaders have criticized the BJP-led Rekha Gupta government on various development and maintenance matters, including pollution. However, their current silence regarding the LG's letter directed to Kejriwal indicates that all accusations made against the AAP—including failures in pollution management, misuse of public funds, involvement in multiple scams, and the construction of his Sheesh Mahal during the Covid pandemic—are indeed valid.
Sachdeva mentioned that the citizens of Delhi are shocked upon discovering Kejriwal's suggestions made to the LG in November/December 2022, which downplayed the seriousness of the pollution issue. They are demanding an explanation from Kejriwal.
The LG also criticized AAP's “petty politics” and “propaganda war” aimed at undermining the current Delhi administration, which is striving to address legacy issues in the city.
He accused Kejriwal of obstructing projects like Metro Phase-IV, Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), and the introduction of e-buses—initiatives that could have enhanced public transport and curtailed air pollution. Saxena commented, “Had you collaborated rather than confronted neighboring states and the Union government, Delhi wouldn't be facing this air pollution crisis today. Regrettably, you have done nothing for Delhi.”
The LG further reprimanded Kejriwal and AAP officials for engaging in trivial politics and failing to learn from their significant electoral defeat in February.
“Since your election loss, you and your party have acted as adversaries instead of a constructive opposition. Your accomplishments over your 11-year term are evident. Delhi's crumbling roads, dilapidated streets, overflowing sewage, silted drains, heaps of garbage, and polluted air stand as a clear testament to your failures,” the LG articulated in Hindi.
