Bengaluru, April 7 (NationPress) The Karnataka branch of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned the statements made by Home Minister G. Parameshwara regarding the molestation of two women in Bengaluru, labeling the comments as "irresponsible".
In response to the increasing occurrences of sexual assaults and harassment in Bengaluru during the night, Parameshwara remarked on Monday, in relation to the recent incident, that "such incidents happen here and there in a big city".
BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra criticized the Home Minister on Monday, stating: "The irresponsible statement regarding the recent assault incident on a young woman in BTM Layout, Bengaluru, is an open acknowledgment that law and order in the state has completely collapsed."
Vijayendra further pointed out that since the Congress party took power in Karnataka, there has been a continuous rise in crimes including murder, robbery, extortion, assaults, and rapes targeting women and children.
The administration’s response to these incidents appears to indicate that such occurrences are not a significant concern and do not require serious attention. This reflects the dismal state of law and order in the region. The Home Minister’s attempt to downplay the harassment of a young woman in broad daylight as a "routine incident" has damaged the state’s reputation on an international scale, showcasing his incompetence, Vijayendra remarked.
"It is extremely unfortunate that the Home Minister consistently trivializes serious incidents with casual comments, as seen in the BTM Layout case. The Chief Minister must assume moral responsibility and publicly address the failure of law and order in the state."
“This statement from the Home Minister clearly demonstrates that the Congress government has utterly failed to maintain law and order and protect women. As long as this government is in power, peace and safety for the citizens of the state will remain an elusive dream," he added.
When questioned by the media regarding the sexual harassment case that surfaced on Sunday, Parameshwara stated, “I have instructed the Bengaluru Police Commissioner to maintain vigilance daily. Police patrolling should be conducted effectively and systematically across all localities in Bengaluru.”
He continued: "Public attention is naturally drawn to these incidents. We will not overlook them—the police department is working continuously."
“Such incidents occur occasionally in a large city, but we will pursue appropriate legal action in each case,” he mentioned.
A video depicting two young women being targeted by a man in the early hours of a residential area went viral on social media, raising significant concerns about women’s safety in Bengaluru.
The 17-second clip shows two women walking along a deserted street bordered by houses on both sides. A tall, muscular man approaches from behind, pushes one of the women aside, sexually harasses the other, and then flees. The video also captures the visibly shaken women pausing briefly to regain their composure before quickly leaving the area.
This incident took place around 2 a.m. on April 4 in the jurisdiction of the Sadduguntepalya police station. The video gained traction on social media on Sunday. Police have filed an FIR based on a complaint from a local resident and have begun searching for the suspect while gathering additional evidence.
