New Delhi, July 2 (NationPress) As Congress leader Rahul Gandhi marks the conclusion of his inaugural year as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, the BJP has launched a scathing critique of his performance, deeming it “extremely low” and accusing him of neglecting his constitutional duties.
BJP representatives have claimed that LoP Rahul Gandhi has been notably absent from the House for lengthy spells and has spent excessive time overseas, which they argue hampers his capacity to effectively represent the Opposition.
“Over the past year, the political landscape of the country has undergone significant transformation. During the discussions of the INDI Bloc in the Lok Sabha, attempts were made to convey the notion that the BJP has faced defeat and that the NDA is lagging. However, recent election outcomes have illuminated the truth for the populace. A clear distinction exists in the political ideologies of both factions,” stated BJP leader Rohan Gupta in an interview with IANS.
He further remarked that this journey, commencing in Haryana, reflects an unmistakable mandate from the public, extending from Haryana to Delhi, indicating that there will be no compromises on national matters.
“The message to the Opposition is unequivocal: the politics of appeasement is now at the forefront. Their coalition partners are leaning on appeasement to salvage their deteriorating situation,” he emphasized.
He also pointed out that the forthcoming Bihar elections are expected to showcase this reality more prominently, with their leaders intensifying their reliance on appeasement, even as they advocate for the Constitution while secretly supporting Sharia.
“The citizens of this nation are aware of the complete truth. Consequently, the Congress party, which once spearheaded the INDI Bloc, has now been relegated to a subordinate role. This decline is attributable to the Congress party’s ideology, policies, and its persistent engagement in appeasement politics,” he asserted.
Another BJP figure, Jagannath Sarkar, criticized LoP Rahul Gandhi for his lack of commitment to his role, stating that he has not adequately fulfilled his responsibilities as LoP in the Lok Sabha.
“He has remained absent from Parliament for prolonged periods. As LoP, it is essential for him to be present in the House and engage in debates,” he remarked.
BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged that the Congress is a party led by a leader, Rahul Gandhi, who routinely travels abroad, often immediately following each Parliament session.
“Even senior leaders within his party struggle to differentiate between national duties and foreign excursions,” he claimed.
BJP leader Nisith Pramanik noted that Rahul Gandhi has now completed a year as LoP in the Lok Sabha. “However, I fear that by the time he starts to grasp the workings of Parliament, his five-year term will be concluded,” he remarked.
He further contended that LoP Rahul Gandhi’s performance is “very poor” even by the standards of a typical parliamentarian.
Notwithstanding the BJP’s criticisms, Rahul Gandhi’s appointment as LoP was a notable milestone in parliamentary history. Following the Congress securing 99 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, this position, which had been vacant for a decade due to the lack of an Opposition party meeting the minimum seat requirement of 10 percent, was finally filled.
In his role as LoP, Rahul Gandhi bears the crucial responsibility of holding the government accountable and offering constructive critiques of its policies, a role that remains vital in any parliamentary democracy.
