Bengaluru, Feb 28 (NationPress) BJP legislators from Karnataka convened with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday to request a decrease in the recent metro fare increase. The meeting took place at Siddaramaiah's official residence, Cauvery, in Bengaluru, where he assured the legislators that the issue would be discussed further.
In response to the push for a fare reduction, the Chief Minister indicated that the government has already reached out to the Central government and Metro authorities to reconsider the controversial fare hike, which was deemed unscientific.
Siddaramaiah also pledged to hold talks with officials to ensure that metro fares in Bengaluru are adjusted appropriately and actions will be taken as per the applicable regulations.
State President B. Y. Vijayendra told reporters, 'We have urged CM Siddaramaiah to advocate for the formation of an additional price fixation committee by the Metro authorities to evaluate the fare increases. The recent fare hike has adversely impacted the common people and daily commuters.'
Vijayendra noted that the rise in metro ticket prices has resulted in increased traffic congestion in Bengaluru.
He also mentioned that Bengaluru South MP and National Yuva Morcha President Tejasvi Surya, along with Bengaluru Central MP P. C. Mohan, have provided suggestions to Siddaramaiah aimed at reducing metro service charges.
Recognizing that Bengaluru generates a substantial portion of the state’s revenue, the BJP legislators urged Siddaramaiah to allocate additional financial resources for their respective constituencies.
During the discussion, they robustly advocated for a budget allocation of Rs 100 crore dedicated to the development of their constituencies and the city of Bengaluru, as stated by CM Siddaramaiah.
Vijayendra highlighted that they also called for elections to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which has been overdue for several years.
He criticized the proposal to split BBMP, labeling it as a 'mischievous' tactic by the Congress-led government.
Vijayendra further criticized Siddaramaiah, claiming that spending lavishly on government residences was unjustifiable given the lack of funds to meet guarantees.
