New Delhi, July 13 (NationPress) - On Sunday, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva called for an investigation into a malicious act targeting Kanwar pilgrims in east Delhi, where glass shards were deliberately strewn on a special track designated for their use.
Describing this incident in the Shahdara area as a serious issue, Sachdeva urged the Delhi Police to look into the matter thoroughly and uncover the facts.
Addressing reporters in New Delhi, he stated, “Those responsible for such a heinous act will be caught.”
The glass shards were discovered scattered along a stretch exceeding one kilometer on the special track on Saturday.
Sachdeva noted that the Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has been enhancing arrangements for the accommodation and movement of Kanwar pilgrims in Delhi compared to previous years.
He added that the government has also facilitated the direct transfer of funds to Kanwar committees via banks, aiding in the improvement of their logistical arrangements.
To ensure a seamless journey for Kanwar pilgrims, special tracks are being established throughout Delhi.
“We are paying particular attention to prevent any obstacles along their route, and medical camps are being organized for their welfare,” he stated.
On Saturday night, the glass shards were found scattered across the special Kanwar track in the Shahdara region of East Delhi.
The intentional distribution of both small and large glass fragments over such an extensive area indicates a potential well-orchestrated conspiracy by anti-social elements to disrupt peace, he asserted.
Sachdeva criticized certain political parties for their history of engaging in appeasement politics towards specific religious groups, questioning their silence on this incident.
Previously, BJP leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra remarked on social media that “Some miscreants in Shahdara, Delhi, scattered glass pieces along the Kanwar Yatra route for about one kilometer. Public Works Department (PWD) and Municipal Corporation workers are clearing the path. Local MLA Sanjay Goyal is also on-site.”
Mishra mentioned that CM Gupta has taken note of the incident and that an FIR will be filed against the offenders by the PWD, asserting that no disruptions will be tolerated during the Kanwariyas’ journey.
