New Delhi, July 13 (NationPress) The President of Delhi BJP, Virendra Sachdeva, has called for an investigation into a troubling incident aimed at endangering Kanwar pilgrims in East Delhi, where glass shards were deliberately scattered on a specially designated track for them.
Sachdeva expressed that the act of damaging the Kanwar pathway in the Shahdara region is a grave concern and urged the Delhi Police to look into this matter to uncover the facts.
“The individuals behind this malicious act will be apprehended,” he stated, while speaking to the press in New Delhi.
The glass fragments were discovered strewn across a distance exceeding one kilometer along the dedicated pilgrimage route on Saturday.
The BJP leader noted that the Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has been making significant improvements in the arrangements for the accommodation and movement of Kanwar pilgrims compared to previous years.
He highlighted that by directly transferring funds to Kanwar committees via banks, the government has aided them in enhancing their preparations.
Sachdeva mentioned that special tracks for Kanwar pilgrims are being established throughout Delhi to facilitate a hassle-free journey.
“We are ensuring that all obstacles are avoided in their path, with medical camps being organized for their support,” he added.
On Saturday night, glass shards were found scattered over a stretch of more than one kilometer on the special Kanwar track in Shahdara, East Delhi.
The intentional distribution of glass pieces, both small and large, over such an extensive area indicates a potential conspiracy by anti-social elements to disrupt public peace, he stated.
Sachdeva remarked that some political factions have consistently engaged in appeasement politics for a specific religious community, and their silence regarding this incident raises questions about their involvement.
Previously, BJP leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra tweeted on Saturday, “Some miscreants in Shahdara, Delhi, scattered glass pieces along the Kanwar Yatra route for approximately one kilometer. Public Works Department (PWD) and Municipal Corporation staff are actively clearing the path, with local MLA Sanjay Goyal on-site.”
Mishra added that CM Gupta is aware of the incident and the PWD will file an FIR against the offenders. He assured that no disruptions will be tolerated during the Kanwariyas' journey.
