Karnataka BJP Raises Concerns Over Voter List Inclusion of Foreign Nationals
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 14 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP raised alarms on Saturday regarding the potential inclusion of residents from Pakistan and Bangladesh in the electoral rolls, asserting it could severely jeopardize the national security of India.
During a press briefing in Bengaluru, R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, emphasized that fraudulent votes should not be permitted during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
Ashoka expressed concerns that numerous individuals from Pakistan and Bangladesh have infiltrated Karnataka, warning that their registration as voters could grant them permanent citizenship, thereby threatening national security.
He noted that this topic was addressed in a workshop aimed at exploring strategies to prevent such entries into the voter list, in which he also participated.
In a critical remark aimed at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Ashoka referenced the Chief Minister's recent declaration of being a socialist who opposes caste and family politics. Ashoka claimed that despite this assertion, Siddaramaiah has solicited political support for his son.
“People have supported him until now, and he is now urging them to support his son. Will he soon request support for his grandson as well? Is this heading towards a monarchy within a democratic system?” Ashoka questioned.
He elaborated on how historically, kings would designate their sons as heirs, stating, “Now the king himself is coronating the prince,” criticizing what he referred to as dynastic politics.
Ashoka further claimed that B.R. Ambedkar had dismantled the monarchy system and instituted a democratic framework based on voting. He accused Siddaramaiah's statements of contradicting Ambedkar's principles, asserting that political leaders should achieve their positions through elections rather than promoting their families.
When questioned about the misuse of LPG cylinders, Ashoka asserted that the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) had been enacted to prevent such misuse and stressed the need for the state government to take stringent measures against black marketing. He urged the public to cooperate during this critical period, criticizing the Chief Minister for politicizing issues even amidst adversity.
Ashoka also alleged that the Chief Minister's circle had been frequently hosting dinner events. “This is the information I have,” he stated, claiming that while ordinary citizens are struggling, lavish dinner arrangements are being organized within the government.
He additionally claimed that some Congress leaders have privately expressed discontent regarding the state Budget, indicating that they have been discussing its deficiencies informally.
