Marking this day as a symbol of commitment, they reaffirmed their dedication to the vision of building a 'Developed India' under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP was founded on April 6, 1980, during a workers' conference at Kotla Ground in New Delhi, where Atal Bihari Vajpayee was elected as the first president of the party.

Nonetheless, its ideological and organizational roots can be traced back to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, established by Syama Prasad Mukherjee in 1951. The Jana Sangh was formed to counter the dominance of the Indian National Congress and collaborated closely with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), considered its political wing.

Union Minister Amit Shah shared on X, "Warm congratulations to all workers on the 45th Foundation Day of the world's largest political organization, the Bharatiya Janata Party. "On this auspicious occasion, I encourage millions of my BJP workers to strive to elevate 'Maa Bharti' to unparalleled heights and contribute to the advancement of every segment of society," the BJP chief added.

"On the establishment day of the BJP, I congratulate and extend my heartfelt best wishes to all BJP workers. Under PM Modi's leadership, the BJP has become central to Indian politics today. The BJP is dedicated to uniting all societal groups for development and welfare, which is evident in the operations of both the central and state governments," he posted.

"The BJP is the sole party in India today that serves as a representative of the aspirations of the underprivileged, Dalits, and marginalized communities. It is the only party that understands how to harmonize national and regional aspirations. Today, under Modi's leadership, the BJP is committed to a developed India, and the populace has full faith that this resolve will indeed manifest by 2047," he added.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar conveyed his greetings, stating, "Heartfelt greetings to all the workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party on its 45th Foundation Day. With the spirit of 'Nation First,' we are devoted to constructing a developed and prosperous India."

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the BJP's national spirit and connection with the masses.

"Grounded in the essence of India, representing its great personalities and spirit, committed to service, good governance, and the welfare of the needy, with the spirit of 'Rashtra Sarvopari' (Nation above all), warm congratulations and best wishes to all dedicated, nationalistic, and people-focused workers on the Foundation Day of the BJP, the largest political party in the world!" he wrote on X.

"Warm congratulations and best wishes to all workers on the Foundation Day of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the world's largest political organization dedicated day and night to nation-building and Maa Bharati, committed to integral humanism, cultural nationalism, and uplifting the underprivileged," he noted.

He further remarked, "Under the capable leadership of PM Modi, every worker of the Bharatiya Janata Party is determined to establish India as a strong, prosperous, and powerful nation on the global stage by adhering to the Panchnishtha principles."

Although officially launched in 1980, the BJP's ideological foundation is deeply rooted in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. According to the party's official website, the post-independence era saw increasing discomfort among nationalist citizens, particularly after the passing of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

With what the party describes as "Nehru's authoritarianism" gaining traction in the Congress, concerns arose over policies such as minority appeasement, the license-permit-quota system, national security issues, and perceived weak stances on Kashmir and other international matters.

"Frustrated by 'Nehruism' and India's silence regarding the atrocities against Hindu minorities in Pakistan and Bangladesh, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee resigned from the Nehru cabinet," the BJP website states.

It further notes, "Consequently, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh was founded on October 21, 1951, at Delhi's Raghomal Arya Kanya High School under the chairmanship of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee."
