BJP Issues Notice to Lok Sabha Members for Upcoming Legislative Session

New Delhi, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formally issued a three-line whip to all its Lok Sabha members, requiring their attendance on Tuesday, as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is anticipated to address the debate concerning supplementary demands for grants for the fiscal year 2024-25.
The government is also expected to present a bill pertaining to simultaneous elections.
Additionally, the Shiv Sena has called on its Lok Sabha MPs to be present in the House on Tuesday, citing the discussion of some critical legislative business as part of their agenda, as stated by the Shiv Sena Parliamentary Party.
"All Lok Sabha MPs of Shiv Sena are informed that several significant issues and legislative matters will be presented in the Lok Sabha for discussion and approval tomorrow, December 17. It is requested that all Lok Sabha members of the Shiv Sena be present in the House for the entire duration of the session," declared Chief Whip Shrirang Barne.
Included in the Lok Sabha's agenda for Tuesday is the Constitution Amendment Bill regarding simultaneous elections.
The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill is set to be introduced by Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal.
Meghwal is also expected to put forth a bill aimed at amending the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963, the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.
This legislation intends to synchronize elections for Assemblies in Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and Puducherry for the purpose of simultaneous elections.
The Union Cabinet approved the 'One Nation One Election' bill earlier this month.
While the BJP and its allies support the bill, various opposition factions, including the Congress, Trinamool Congress, and DMK, are against it.
The Union Cabinet accepted the recommendations of the High-Level Committee on Simultaneous Elections in September, which was led by former President Ram Nath Kovind.
The committee's recommendations were detailed in a report presented by the panel chaired by former President Kovind.
The panel advocated for the implementation of simultaneous elections in two phases, suggesting that Lok Sabha and Assembly elections occur concurrently in the first phase, followed by local body elections (panchayat and municipalities) within 100 days post-general elections.
It also proposed a common electoral roll for all elections.
