Should BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj Surrender in Rowdy Sheeter Murder Case?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 11 (NationPress) Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated that it would be prudent for BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj, who is implicated in a rowdy sheeter murder case, to turn himself in to the authorities.
The Karnataka High Court revoked his interim bail on Tuesday.
While addressing the media, Parameshwara was questioned about the absence of Basavaraj's arrest by the police. He replied, “It is in the best interest of BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj to voluntarily surrender to the police. The court's directive was issued on Tuesday. Surrendering of his own accord would be advisable; otherwise, the police will pursue him.”
The BJP's representative for Bengaluru's KR Puram, Byrathi Basavaraj, faces an imminent arrest following the Karnataka High Court's dismissal of his anticipatory bail request.
A bench led by Justice Sunil Dutt Yadav issued the ruling after lifting the prior interim protection against arrest.
Subsequent to the court's verdict, the CID initiated a search operation to locate the MLA. According to CID sources, Basavaraj is currently evading capture, and law enforcement indicated that his arrest could occur at any moment.
Previously, the court had granted Basavaraj temporary protection from arrest.
Amid concerns that he might flee the nation, a Look Out Circular (LOC) has been issued for the MLA. The CID has also collaborated with police forces across other states, forming specialized teams to track his movements and ensure his capture.
The murder of rowdy sheeter Biklu Shiva took place on July 15 of last year in the Halasuru area of Bengaluru.
Investigators have allegedly amassed significant evidence implicating the MLA. CID officials stated that custodial interrogation of Basavaraj is essential to advance the investigation and expose any broader conspiracy linked to the murder.
Basavaraj has been charged with murder and identified as the fifth suspect in the case concerning the slaying of Biklu Shiva, who was brutally murdered outside his residence. The Bharatinagar police in Bengaluru filed an FIR against the MLA based on a complaint from the victim’s mother.
The situation escalated when the deceased’s mother asserted that she had never implicated the BJP MLA in her complaint and was unaware of how his name came to be included in the FIR. However, police maintained that they had subsequently confirmed Basavaraj’s connections with the principal accused.
Initially, Basavaraj had established ties with rowdy Jagadeesh alias Jagga, the main suspect in the case, and had interacted with Biklu Shiva on multiple occasions prior to the incident.
Previously, Basavaraj was affiliated with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah before joining the BJP.
