Karnataka HC Denies Bail to BJP MLA Basavaraj in Murder Case?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 10 (NationPress) BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj from Bengaluru's KR Puram, who stands accused in the murder of notorious rowdy-sheeter Shivaprakash, known as Biklu Shiva, is on the brink of arrest following the rejection of his anticipatory bail application by the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday.
A bench led by Justice Sunil Dutt Yadav delivered the ruling, revoking the previous interim protection from arrest.
In light of the court's ruling, CID officials have initiated a manhunt for the MLA. Sources within the CID revealed that Basavaraj has gone underground, and law enforcement is prepared to apprehend him at any moment.
Previously, the court had granted Basavaraj temporary immunity from arrest.
Fearing that he might flee the country, a Look Out Circular (LOC) has been issued against him. The CID has also collaborated with police in neighboring states to establish specialized teams to track his whereabouts and ensure his capture.
The murder of Biklu Shiva transpired on July 15 of the previous year in the Halasuru region of Bengaluru.
Investigators have reportedly collected substantial evidence implicating the MLA. CID officials indicate that custodial interrogation of Basavaraj is crucial to advance the investigation and reveal the broader conspiracy surrounding the murder.
Basavaraj has been charged with murder and is identified as the fifth accused in the killing of Biklu Shiva, who was brutally murdered outside his residence. The Bharatinagar Police in Bengaluru registered an FIR against Basavaraj following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother.
The case took a dramatic twist when the deceased’s mother alleged that she had never mentioned the MLA’s name in her initial complaint and was unaware of how it ended up in the FIR. However, police stated that they subsequently established Basavaraj’s connections to the main accused in the case.
Initially, Basavaraj had direct links with Jagadeesh, also known as Jagga, the primary suspect in the murder, and he had met Biklu Shiva multiple times leading up to the incident.
Before aligning with the BJP, Basavaraj was previously affiliated with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
