Patna, Dec 5 (NationPress) A Personal Assistant (PA) to a BJP MLA has sustained injuries after being shot at by unidentified assailants on motorcycles in the district of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, officials reported on Friday.
This alarming incident occurred in the area governed by the Maniyari police station on the night of Thursday.
The injured individual, Vinod Das, is the PA to Kedar Gupta, the BJP MLA representing the Kudhni Assembly constituency.
The shooting took place as he was returning from a wedding celebration. Both bystanders and law enforcement arrived at the scene shortly after the event, and Das was taken to a private medical facility in Muzaffarpur, where he is currently receiving care.
As per police reports, Das was on his way back from a wedding in Kaziinda, within the jurisdiction of the Maniyari police station, when two youths on a motorcycle overtook him and suddenly opened fire.
Initially, witnesses believed the young men were merely racing, but the sound of gunfire caused widespread panic.
Local residents noted that Vinod Das had previously run for the Mukhiya election from Amark Panchayat in 2021. He has also held the position of BJP Mandal President before becoming the PA to MLA Kedar Gupta.
Upon receiving news of the incident, Rural Superintendent of Police Rajesh Singh Prabhakar visited the hospital to speak with Das and his family.
He confirmed that Das is under medical care and stated that a comprehensive investigation was underway.
Police operations have commenced to locate the attackers.
“We are committed to solving this case promptly and ensuring the assailants are apprehended,” SP Prabhakar assured.
This incident follows recent comments from state Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary, who has pledged decisive action against criminals and warned offenders to either cease their illegal activities or leave Bihar.
Earlier this week, a BPSC teacher, Shivani Verma, was tragically shot dead by two motorcycle-riding assailants while she was en route to her school near the Kanhaili Shiva Temple in the Araria district.
