Kolkata, Feb 10 (NationPress) BJP MLAs expressed their strong discontent on Monday after West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose omitted the RG Kar case from his budget session address.
Traditionally, the state government drafts the Governor's written speech for any legislative session, which he simply reads aloud.
As the Governor exited the house following his address, BJP women legislators began to protest and questioned the absence of the R.G. Kar tragedy in the Governor’s remarks.
West Bengal’s Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, informed the media that despite the horrific incident involving a junior doctor at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, who was brutally raped and murdered in the facility, as well as several other similar occurrences across the state, none were acknowledged in the Governor’s speech.
“The state government has made false claims via the Governor’s written address,” he asserted.
He further stated that the Governor's opening remarks falsely claimed that the recent festival season in West Bengal unfolded smoothly and without incident.
“During every Hindu festival, there have been challenges instigated by certain factions associated with the ruling Trinamool Congress. In fact, the Saraswati Puja had to be held under police protection due to a directive from the Calcutta High Court,” he stated.
Additionally, he noted that the central initiative ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ was incorrectly referred to as ‘Jal Swapno’ in the Governor’s address.
“I have already brought this to the attention of the Union Jal Shakti ministry through an email,” he added.
