Kolkata, July 5 (NationPress) The West Bengal Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Suvendu Adhikari, announced on Saturday his intention to spearhead a march toward the secretariat on August 9, marking the first anniversary of the tragic rape and murder of a female junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata.
Adhikari shared that he successfully persuaded the parents of the R.G. Kar victim to join the rally on this significant date.
“The rally is set for August 9. Recent events, such as the rape of a law college student within her educational institution, have sent shockwaves throughout the nation. Our protest will denounce both the R.G. Kar and the Kasba law college incidents,” he stated.
He emphasized that the rally would be “apolitical,” with no party flags permitted.
“I invite individuals from all segments of society to join us,” he urged.
Adhikari highlighted that in both the R.G. Kar and Kasba law cases, those behind the crimes were closely linked to the Trinamool Congress, with attempts from the governing body and sections of the state administration to shield the perpetrators.
Regarding the R.G. Kar case, parallel trials are currently underway at the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court, while the Kolkata Police’s Detective Department is investigating the Kasba law college rape case.
