Bhopal, July 28 (NationPress) The BJP criticized the Congress party in Madhya Pradesh on Monday after prominent leaders Kamal Nath and Ajay Singh were absent from a meeting convened by the state’s Leader of the Opposition, Umang Singhar, on the inaugural day of the Monsoon session.
The BJP alleged that the absence of senior leaders highlights the ongoing issue of 'factionalism' within the Congress party.
Speaking to reporters at the Assembly, senior BJP MLA Umakant Sharma questioned why top Congress figures failed to attend the meeting.
“What is preventing Kamal Nath from being present in the House? This indicates that all is not well within the Congress, which is plagued by the persistent issue of factionalism,” Sharma remarked in response to Congress’s actions inside the Assembly on that day.
When inquired about the absence of Kamal Nath and Ajay Singh from this significant meeting, a Congress representative stated that invitations had been extended to all Congress MLAs.
“The BJP is attempting to portray a narrative that the Congress is disunited, which is entirely incorrect. Ajay Singh and Kamal Nath, along with several other MLAs, were unable to attend due to prior commitments, and they had already communicated this to Umang Singhar,” the Congress spokesperson mentioned.
Following the Congress's defeat in the November 2023 Assembly elections, Kamal Nath was succeeded by Jitu Patwari as the state president.
Kamal Nath’s office informed IANS that he plans to be present in the House on Tuesday.
Ajay Singh, son of the late former Chief Minister Arjun Singh, serves as the MLA from the Churhat assembly seat in the Sidhi district. Although he lost in 2018, he successfully retained his seat in the 2023 elections.
