Bhopal, Jan 22 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday condemned State Congress President Jitu Patwari for his "groupism is cancer" remark, asserting that Patwari has initiated a new trend to "voice concerns in politics".

The Chief Minister urged Congress to clarify "who constitutes the cancer in the party?"

"Congress has prominent leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, and those at the helm should provide clarity," CM Yadav remarked during a media interaction in Gwalior.

Patwari's statements regarding "cancer in Congress" gained traction after a video surfaced online, where he stated, "We must eliminate this cancer of factionalism, or we will face our own destruction. If we do not eradicate the cancer of factionalism, we will self-destruct."

The ruling BJP seized the opportunity to criticize the Madhya Pradesh Congress unit, claiming that Patwari acknowledged a harsh truth.

Another BJP leader, and Minister of State for Health, Narendra Shivaji Patel, remarked that Jitu Patwari has recognized the reality within his party but has done so too late.

He noted that the factionalism in Congress has deeply entrenched itself in Madhya Pradesh, making it appear that the grand old party will struggle to escape it.

In a conversation with IANS, Patel indicated that factionalism is not a new issue for Congress but has intensified since Patwari became the head of the state unit.

"Senior leaders like Digvijaya Singh and Kamal Nath have been marginalized. The people of the state have also turned their backs on Congress. Therefore, Patwari's remarks hold validity," he added.

While addressing party workers ahead of the upcoming event in Mhow on January 27, Patwari insisted that "factionalism or groupism is like a cancer in Congress, which must be eradicated, or the party will face extinction."

Nonetheless, following the backlash from the ruling BJP and even within Congress, Patwari refuted the idea that his party is fractured in Madhya Pradesh.

Instead, he accused the BJP of orchestrating misinformation, stating that it is fueled by the BJP's IT cell, but he will "tackle it head-on."

Patwari made these comments to the media on Monday when questioned about his assertion that "factionalism is cancer in Congress."

He blamed the BJP's public relations division, claiming that the "BJP's media cell disseminates its agenda to media outlets."

"Whatever steps are necessary to eradicate factionalism in our party, I will undertake them, and we will confront it with unity and resolve. We will persist in our efforts and undermine the foundations of the BJP," Patwari stated on Monday.
